Opening Day At Tony’s House 2006

3-08-06 Opening day at Tony’s house was Thursday, March 2nd. My sister and I were also there for the Friday and Saturday shows. Each was better than the one before it, and it’s only the beginning!! Tony has all new music in the first half of the show, from “Moody Blue” and “Lawdy, Miss Clawdy” to “Sylvia” and “Angel,” and my favorite, the magnificent gospel song, “Lead Me,” which reduced me to tears. Tony put his soul into that song, and it has never sounded more beautiful than it did that first day of this new season.

tonyThere are some changes in the show this year. David Brooks is no longer playing grand piano, and we sure do miss him tickling those ivories. Gene Puckett has moved on and has been replaced by a great guitarist by the name of Steve – sorry, Steve, but I didn’t catch your last name!! The rest of the band is back again – Kelly, Gary, and Dino. What would Tony Roi’s Powerhouse Band be without them?? Tony has a new Angel Singer, Donna, who has replaced Mandy – Mandy is engaged to be married, so congratulations, Mandy!!

Donna joins Heather - and the Angel Singers have evidently become the Angel Dancers also, because one of the new numbers has Donna and Heather out there doing a choreographed dance with Tony. I’ll have to tell my Uncle Gene about that – he wanted to see some pretty girls dancing – that might get him to bring “the wife” right back to Branson! More evening shows have been added for this new season, too, so check the new schedule for that information.

Tony still obliges the many crazed women who come to the stage and want his SWEAT and that SEXY “ESSENCE OF TONY” (Caesars Man) wiped on a silk scarf, and of course, they also want those sweet, sweet kisses. Sherry is still taking great photos on stage with Tony - I think I have a gallery of 17 now!! (In my TONY SHRINE!!) Crystal, Donna, Richard and Tanner are back also – they’ve become like family to all of Tony’s fans. And we can’t forget to once again thank Tony’s beautiful wife, Melanie, for sharing him with us and smiling through it all!!

Of course, the whole show is filled with the songs of Elvis as before, but Tony has added more of his own music, also. Toward the end of last year, Tony included “Back On The Road Again,” and this year he is singing “Don’t Call Her Angel,” both of which are from his album titled “Hand in Hand.” All of Tony’s CD’s are so good – a fabulous addition to anyone’s CD collection. Tony puts joy in your heart. As if his singing doesn’t make you joyful enough, you will have a doubly joyful experience just watching the man SHAKE IT, SHAKE IT, SHAKE IT!! It’s really hard to stay in your seat!!

Many members of Tony’s new fan club – called Tony’s Club – were in attendance during the three days, and Tony was presented with a beautiful new jumpsuit, a replica of the “Indian Suit” that Elvis wore. Everyone had a blast mooning over Tony!! We had waited so long – since December 30th – for our next Tony fix!! It wasn’t easy, believe me!! But Tony made it worth the wait, as usual!!

A few of us were lucky enough to get to see Tony during the off season. He appeared at a small club near Steedman, Missouri, in mid-February. Sandi and I drove over for the show and, of course, it was absolutely fantastic!! Tony was in black leather that night, and the performance was hot, hot, hot!! People who had never seen Tony were amazed by his huge talent, and even more amazed by his gorgeous self!! Without a doubt, many of them will be coming to Branson now that the new season has begun. Once you see Tony, you’re hooked for life!!

We were told that Tony did a benefit for a Catholic school in Chicago a week after that club performance. I would have loved to be there, because it has been reported by a very reliable source that even the NUNS were screaming for TONY!! SCREAMING NUNS – that just about says it all, don’t you think??

tonyMany new items have been added for sale at Tony’s show. The hot seller is the new “TONY ROI JACKET” – of course I got mine immediately!! At the Saturday show, Tony ran off stage in the middle of “Johnny Be Good,” and we didn’t know what was going on. He came back a few minutes later dressed in jeans and one of the “Tony Roi Jackets” and finished the show. Tony in jeans is every bit as good as Tony in an Elvis style jumpsuit!! After the show, a drawing was held and one lucky fan club member, Glenda, won the jacket that Tony wore on stage!! I am so GREEN with envy!! I’ll bet she sleeps with it on her pillow every night!!

There was one hilarious incident at the Saturday show which I must mention. As Tony was singing “She’s The Devil In Disguise,” a tall, very blonde woman with a large bouffant hairdo, short skirt and high heels came walking up to the stage carrying a big bouquet of flowers. She was holding the flowers in front of her face, and when she got to the stage, presumably to get a kiss from Tony as many women do, the flowers went down and Tony cracked up!! It was a very close friend of his – MALE FRIEND – dressed as a woman!! He/she had a very visible mustache!! The audience was in stitches and Tony quipped – “I don’t know what that was, but she had a mustache and a hairy chest!!”

We are all thrilled by the fact that Tony is once again coming out after the shows to sign autographs, take pictures, and chat with every one of us who love him so much. This man truly adores his fans and is so appreciative of every person who comes to visit him at Tony’s house.

Without infringing upon his privacy, I will just mention that Tony suffered a deep personal loss the week before opening day. A lesser man might have postponed the show, but Tony Roi is a man of courage and commitment and strength. He stepped on that stage and gave everything he had to give to his audience. And when he sang “This Time, Lord, You Gave Me A Mountain,” we could all feel it was personal and from the heart. This man never lets you down, as a human being or as an entertainer. No wonder he is so loved.

Everyone who loves Tony Roi knows that he is the BEST PERFORMER IN BRANSON, as evidenced by the fact that he has been voted that honor two years in a row. There is no doubt in my mind that this season will bring him that same recognition for a third year. So everyone who is reading this – if you’ve never been to Music City Centre to see Tony Roi’s Elvis Experience, get over there and see this fabulous entertainer and you, too, will be hooked!

Even if you were never an Elvis fan, you will be a Tony fan, Once you hear this amazing, powerful voice, see that beautiful face, and meet this gracious, loving man, you’ll know why he has so many devoted fans. Don’t go there expecting just another Elvis impersonator – Tony is a Tribute Artist of the greatest quality – and he honors the career and the memory of Elvis brilliantly.

But it won’t matter if he sings Elvis songs, or if he wears Elvis suits, or if he looks and sounds amazingly like Elvis – all of which he does!! You will go back again and again because he is Tony Roi, and you will love him just as much as I do.
