Bill
Medley/Paul Revere and the Raiders
My husband and recently went to
Branson for a romantic
'weekend getaway' to celebrate our 20th Anniversary on June 20. We
had been ‘first loves’ in 1967, with "Unchained Melody" as our song.
We later broke up and married others but that song would bring a
flood of memories whenever we heard it all those years. In 1985 we
found each other single again after 18 years and married in June
1986.
Imagine
our surprise when we found out that Bill Medley was featured
at Dick
Clark’s American Bandstand Theater! Not only he, but Paul
Revere and the Raiders, another group from our teen years! What a
treat the show was! And even more so because the new lead singer for
Paul Revere and the Raiders is Darrin Medley, Bill’s son!
Paul Revere was just as comical as ever but his humor had aged with
him! (If you are a baby boomer you’ll roar at some of the jokes both
he and Bill tell! Oh, how we could relate!)
‘It was incredibly romantic to hear "Unchained Melody" performed by
the original artist for our special weekend. We were also
thrilled to hear all the old familiar songs including "Indian
Reservation" and "Hungry" by The Raiders along with Righteous
Brothers’ "Soul and Inspiration", "You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling",
and of course, "Unchained Melody" as the encore.
A special treat for us was to see Bill, his son Darrin and daughter
McKenna sing together. McKenna sings with the Comets and her voice
is as beautiful as she. The love that is evident in this family is
heartwarming. Not often do you see father and son kiss. We loved it.
The theater is new, spacious, well air conditioned, bright and
comfortable and is complete with an elevator! We didn’t know there
was a restaurant so we’d already eaten, but next trip we’ll eat at
Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Grill. There’s a nice snack - bar,
also. The lobby is designed for comfort, with Retro items all around
including seats in the trunk of old cars!
Between
shows, there is a comedian who walks the lobby entertaining people
and drawing ‘boomers’ into trying their hand at the Hula Hoop! Many
took him up on it! It was hilarious to watch!
One thing we found especially nice was the photographer who catches
people on their way in to find their seats and snaps a souvenir
photo, which may be picked up during intermission. We loved that!
There is no commitment needed and you can buy all or none.
We didn’t have time to experience everything on our first visit so
we’re going this weekend to see the show again, check out "The Patch
Collection" and enjoy the Grill! See you there!
Thanks Dick Clark for coming to Branson and helping to make our 20th
Anniversary so special!
