EDITORS’ CHOICE: A MUST SEE SHOW – RANKIN BROTHERS
November 5, 2009, 8:00 PM
A six-member BransonCritic staff entourage attended the Rankin Brothers Show on Thursday night for the presentation of the 2009 Must See Show, Editors’ Choice Award. Chad Ray, Director of Operations, made the presentation to Mark and Matt Rankin, backed by the entire cast on stage. Chad gave a brief background of BransonCritic.com and then read some quotes from Rankin Brothers fans and Branson Critic editors, including:
Some of Editors: Editor Kathy Bennett wrote: The Rankin Brothers continue to be a favorite for locals and area visitors. Mark and Matt are brimming with talent. Their vocals are so smooth and are so close to the original artists, it's unbelievable. The musicians are cream-of-the-crop, and the beautiful and talented Rankinettes know their stuff while performing the girls' rock and roll songs! The friendliness, enjoyment, and love displayed by all on stage are genuine, and are displayed off-stage as well.
The 2009 Rankin Brothers - Classic Music Revue made its debut on 16 March to a packed house in their beautiful new venue, the Starlite Theatre right on the Hwy 76 strip. Expectations were high; after all they were awarded Best Duo Act, Best Male Entertainer and Best New Show of 2008. Would they keep the 2008 show intact? Would they dare venture away from proven success to incorporate new material into the show?
Some of the favorites from 2008 have been retained; e.g., the Righteous Brothers 1965 hit, “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’,” the Tokens’, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” Chuck Berry’s, “Johnny B. Goode,” etc. What makes their show such a big hit is that they perform songs the way the original artists performed them. Going all the way back to the ‘50’s, the Rankin Brothers bring back memories and emotions as they recreate the authentic sounds of the times.
On 23 November 2008, Chad Ray and six Branson Critics staff members joined an enthusiastic audience at the Welk Resort Theatre to see the evening performance of the Rankin Brothers Show. Mid way through the first half, the show was stopped and Chad Ray was invited to the stage. Chad explained to the audience briefly what Branson Critic is and the process for selecting award winners. Chad was ill that night so Velva Cort, editor, accompanied him to the stage to handle the award. Then Chad announced the Rankin Brothers Show as the winner of the Branson Critic Editors’ Choice Award for Best New Show 2008. Chris Cathcart, producer, and Matt & Mark Rankin were on stage to accept the award. Velva passed the award to Mark and the cheers started erupting, first from the band, and then the entire audience. Everyone present was excited to see this talented group of entertainers, managers, producers, and technicians, recognized for all the work they put into presenting this top-notch award-winning show.
Recently a group of friends and I attended the Rankin Brothers show. To be perfectly honest, I was practically forced into the situation. I wasn't really feeling up to going out and I had a pre-conceived notion that the brothers would be your mediocre, run-of-the-mill, take 'em or leave 'em type of entertainers. I could not have been more wrong!
From the onset, the Rankin Brothers dominated your attention. They perform a variety of music from the 50's to the 90's...all great selections, I might add. Most shows have a gimmick...none here; these boys are pure entertainment. Once the show started, I got started (as did many other members of the audience). These were songs that I, as well as every other baby boomer, hold dear to the heart...songs we grew up with... memories... nostalgia...and all done to perfection. We were not only singing along...we were moving and yes, even dancing in the aisles. The entire audience (which included all ages) appeared to really be getting into the music.
My wife and I finally made it over to the Welk Resort Theatre to see the Rankin Brothers after so many friends said, “You’ve got to see it.” Now we know why. We should have known a first rate resort with a first rate theater is going to have a first rate show. The Rankin Brothers deserve this beautiful venue where so many talented big names have played.
Our evening started with a quiet dessert at the Stage Door Restaurant right before show time. Then, when we went into the theater and got settled in the comfortable seats, we were ready to be entertained. The Rankin Brothers; Matt, Mark, and the entire cast, were ready to entertain. They came out and the brothers explained who they were, how they came to be in Branson, and what the show was about - and then the Classic Music Revue began with Bob Seger’s 1978 hit, “Old Time Rock N’ Roll.” This was well-performed and a perfect opening for two hours of music from the 50’s through the 90’s. The brothers were learning the music of the 50’s and 60’s when they were in their teens. They proved how well they learned with their second song of the evening, Eddie Cochran’s 1958 hit, “Summertime Blues.” By this point in the show they had the audience convinced they were for real, they knew their stuff, and they knew how to entertain.

The Rankin Brothers show is the best yet. Their charm, humor and just plain great showmanship makes a show well worth the trip alone. Mark's portrayal of many different beloved entertainers are cute (especially Sonny and Cher), Willy, and George Strait. Matt's solo of Unchained Melody in enchanting. The Rankinettes add their charm and talent to the show along with a great band of musicians. Their desire to meet each and every one of their patrons after the show makes it an endearing and forgettable experience. This show is a must for any visit to Branson. Looking forward to next season. Great job, guys!
The first time I went to the show I thought it was the best show in Branson .The music was great. The songs they did sounded just like the original artists. It really brought back a lot of good memories. Made me feel like a teenager all over again. It was GREAT. The second time we went my niece and husband were visiting from Iowa. We had front row seats. It was fantastic. They thought it was the best show they had ever seen in Branson. I think the more you see it the better it gets. I'm going to tell all my friends in Iowa that come down for a visit to see it. And my husband and I will be going again. The Rankin Brothers are well worth seeing more than once.
We have seen many shows in Branson. But the Rankin Brothers rank # 1 with me. Because they bring back memories of good music. They perform the songs as if you were listening to the original artist. They can sing and play songs of all eras, my preference is the 50's & 60's and their gospel songs.
Mark is great Elvis, The King of Rock & Roll and no one that can perform Buddy Holly like Matt. They work together as a comic. It is a good family show, all ages will enjoy The Rankin Brothers.
They have chosen the very best as their back up singers and musicians. They play the guitar with perfection.
I look forward to my trips to Branson, for they are fortunate to have such talented people as The Rankin Brothers to represent their city.

We moved to Branson 2007. We started seeing the Rankin Brothers in 2008 at the Welk Theatre. We enjoyed their show so much that we returned several times, and enjoyed it more and more every time we went. In 2009 we started with their first show at the Starlite Theatre. As of September 25,2009 we have seen their show 68 Times and will continue to see them the rest of the year.
Mark & Matt Rankin along with their parents re about the best people that anyone could ever meet. They make everyone feel welcome at every show. The first time that you're meet them they make you feel like you have been friends for a long time. After each show along with the Rankinettes and their parents they meet anyone who wants to talk with them, even if you don't buy any CDs or pictures. And you don't get the rush job. They will stay and meet with you as long as you want. This means a lot to people.
Anyone who is visiting Branson and goes to see the Rankin Brothers will enjoy their show. From the very first song until the last, every minute is exciting. You never get bored. It's just not a song to them; they sing every song with meaning. You can hear the words to each song, and it's not a bunch of noise. Mark & Matt are true professionals and when they sing they sound better that the original singers. Included in the show Mark does Elvis, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Roy Orbison and Many others. Matt does a tribute to Buddy Holly and plays a mean guitar He also sings The Lion Sleeps Tonight, and what a great job he does with this song. The brothers also do The Everly Brothers, The Beach Boys and many other duo groups. There are so many songs and all done with feeling. A lady visiting from Germany said to me at the show last week they sing from the inside and that is how you can tell they are great singers. It’s hard to put in words how GREAT the RANKIN BROTHERS
SHOW is. To my wife and me it's the best show in Branson. These two brothers deserve any awards they get. They work so hard at every show to give their audience a great memory of Branson, and a show they will never forget. The Rankin Brothers get our VOTE for the best show in Branson for 2009.
This was the forth trip to Branson this year for my wife and I. We have seen many shows before in Branson, but this one tops all the rest. We live in Cleburne, Texas and this is about a nine-hour drive. We plan at least one more trip this year to see the Rankin Brothers Christmas show.
The performance of these brothers and their group is outstanding, they do not have a comedy act, although I gave them a 4 they make the crowd laugh at their comments towards each other. They put on a great Christian show for the young and old, and the songs they sing bring back old memories for me, and make new ones for the younger generation. This has got to be the best show in Branson. They deserve to receive the Branson Critic award for the pure pleasure they provide for their audience. My trips to Branson are always entertaining, and I cannot wait to get back.

The show is the best show we have seen in several years. We travel a lot and see many shows in several states such as Vegas, Pigeon Forge Tenn. The show was very interesting .the show had a lot of different songs that my wife and I grew up listing to. This was a great plus for us. We have had some friends go to the show with us who were not our age and they enjoyed the show and went to it again without us. The two brothers and the ladies in the show made us feel like we were important too them. After the show they not only singed our cds they told us how much they appreciated us. They are Christians and that is important to us. The seats in the show were great the show is on the strip and easy to find. This is a great night of fun for people of any age. These guys and ladies are soooo good.

This is a great show!!!
My husband and myself travel all over this country and see many shows. This show is different from any we have seen. The two brothers have so much talent that it is unbelievable. We have been hearing the songs for most of our lives and these men sing them better that the persons who made the records. We listen to their the cd so much that we know what song comes on next. After the show all the people in the show made us feel inportant. They not only sign the cds they told us how much they appreciated us. This show is good for all ages. We tell friends about the show and tell them if they go and don't like it we will give them their money back. We have a lot of friends go to the show and have not had one who was not impressed. The show is on the strip and the seats are great. What else can you ask for?
The Rankin Brothers was a wonderful surprise on our first trip to Branson. We heard they were best new show in 2008 and decided to see for ourselves. We were delighted by the talents they displayed, both as singers and musicians. They did a terrific job taking the audience back down memory lane as they did amazing impressions of one artist after the other from the 50's and 60's. From Neil Diamond and Elvis to Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry; Willie Nelson to George Strait...both brothers delighted the audience with their musical talents. Their humor added yet another dimension to their show and everyone left tapping their toes and wishing for more. They certainly lived up to their 2008 award for best new show and should be considered right up there with the best...period. We would definitely recommend this family show to anyone looking for a great experience in Branson. And to top it all off, they were genuinely nice young men to boot. What a treat!

I have been to Branson many many times and I just want to say that this show is the best I have ever seen. The time went so quickly during the show because it was so mesmerizing that it was over before I knew it. The musicians were awesome and the singing both by the Rankin Brothers and by the backup singers was fantastic. I thought it was the original artists. It brought back memories from the past. I will go see them every time I am in Branson and I am telling everyone I know about their show. It was fabulous! A real time machine back into the 60's. What a good time I had as well as my friends that I went with. We all talked about them for days. They are the best show in Branson and we have seen them all.

I went with my husband and our friends to see shows in Branson. We saw the Rankin Brothers one evening and WOW! They were great. I was whisked back in time to the 60's. What a show, great singing by the Rankins and the back up singers and great music and the comedy was outstanding. We saw them last year but they are even better this year. It was like a whole new show. What a great time we all had and will definitely go see them again. We are planning another trip later this fall and will be bringing family with us to see them. They sound just like the original artists and I thought I would bust a gut laughing when they cut up with each other. That air conditioning filter part is so funny. We just want to say how we enjoyed them and think they are the best in Branson.

I am happy to vote for the Rankin Brothers. I love their show!
It is so fun to take a walk with them down memory lane and remember what you were doing and with whom, when each of these hits are performed.
The build up to the Elvis piece is very clever and baits the audience with great anticipation. Then when "Elvis" finally delivers, Marks performance is spot on! You could close your eyes and think the King himself were on the stage; hairy chest and all. (Matt takes care of that in short order!)
The banter between Mark and Matt really keeps the audience connected with the Rankin Brothers and not just sitting in a seat waiting for the next song. Some of my other favorites are the Everly Bros., Conway Twitty (awesome), and when Matt rocks with Buddy Holly singing "That'll Be The Day". The new addition of the George Strait piece was GREAT.
I laughed, I cried, I rocked and rolled. These guys get standing o's and totally deserve them. I have been fortunate to meet mom and dad Rankin and it's easy to see where these Texas boys get their charm and charisma.
For anyone who hasn't seen this show, it is a rock 'n roll must on your next trip to Branson.
FABULOUS SHOW!!

The Rankin Show is at the top of my list everytime I come to Branson. The show is so entertaining, with all the 50's and 60's and some 70's music. I love to sit there and reminis and dream about the good old days, I even find myself singing along with them. The Rankins really amaze me, how they sound just like the artists, I just can't sit still,I want to get up and dance. It's just such a fun show, and everybody on stage looks and acts like they are really having a good time.I noticed after the show, the Rankins stay and talk with people and give autographs until the last person has left the building.Even the people involved in the show are so friendly, speaking to people and chatting with them, they act like they really enjoy what they are doing.I look forward to seeing the show when I return in November.
Jerry Rankin Loraine, Texas 79532 Date/Time: 3:00 PM - 9/22/2009 The Rankin Brothers - Classic Music Revue Starlite Theatre
These young men have a special talent like none I have seen before in anyone. The way their voices can change into the artist of the song they are singing. The one that really amazed me on their website I visit often, was Matt singing the Lion Sleeps Tonight. I had to switch to the Token's song and listen, if I were not watching the difference I couldn't tell. They are amazing. I grew up in the era that all their music comes from. The Satellite Theater, Staff, and everything about the show, especially Matt and Mark just blew me away. Believe me I will be back again and again. It seems like from the time they lived and worked in the Dallas area, these artist have blossomed. To my way of thinking they have found their home. I can't see hou they could improve any more, but they are still amazing me. Their personalities, their family ties, even as brothers shows all the love and respect toward each other, and the way they work together is so obvious on the stage and their website. I met Matt once and talked with him. He was so intent on listening to me and what I was saying it made me feel I was the only person standing there in the crowd. I really want to see a lot more of Matt and Mark.
Thank You

We went to five shows at various theaters and this was by far the best. When they did an "Elvis" song, Elvis himself could not have done it any better. The Righteous Bros, Buddy Holly, etc. They were all excellent! We can't wait to see them again. After the show the whole group visited with the fans. Each of them signed autographs and talked with the fans for quite a while. We told many of our friends about he show and how much we liked it; if they get to Branson this is a show they have to see. The people we talked to at the show enjoyed it every bit as much as we did. Many of them had not heard of them before the show. They won't be unknown for long. Definately a show you must see!!!

I first saw The Rankin Brothers in 2008 in Branson. I thoroughly enjoyed the show, and just went back yesterday(this year). The complete group is so talented and enjoyable. They all seem to really have a lot of fun at ther job. The compatibility of all the group is very evident. There is such a variety of music, including instrumentals, and of course, comedy. The wholesomeness of the cast is a real attribute. I can't believe the voice that comes from the "little" brother, Mark. It's awesome! The instrumentalists are very blessed with talent also. And, of course, the Rankinettes(the girl backup singers) are very talented, and pleasing to the ear as well...Matt, the taller, younger brother, (sorry Mark) is very talented on the guitar and vocals also. I just appreciated everyone in the show...Very family oriented. I would reccomend this show to everyone, young and old. This is the best show we've seen in Branson in several years. I appreciate what these two brothers have brought to Branson.
Very Sincerely, Pam Brixey

The Rankin brothers put on an exciting and accurate blend of old and new music. their interpretation of the old rock and roll stars is 'dead on'! Matt Rankin's Chuck Berry 'Goose Step' is as good as Chuck's and his Buddy Holly is perfect.Mark Rankin's Elvis is tasteful with just the right amount of humor. If you close your eyes and listen you would think Elvis was on stage. The musical ability of the Brothers is excellent with well designed playlist that keep the mood lively and within the era they are re-creating. The newer songs in their repitiore are done with their own genuine style and flavor. The backup vocals and band members all contribute to the overall show to make it what I believe is the best in Branson! After the show the Brothers meet and greet you in the lobby with an honest and personal "thank you so much for coming to our show"
The Only show to see in Branson. The boys made us feel like we were back in the 50's and 60's when we got married. How they sound like the artist and in some cases, better than the artist, just blow me away. The show was ABOVE anything else in Branson. The cast was just as great and you can tall they enjoy what they are doing. Another great thing is that they come out after the show and talk to everone, till the last person leaves. After we left the show, we told eveyrone we saw, you got to go and see the Rankin Brothers. We are coming back in Noverber for our anniversary and that will be the only show we will see. WE plan to see it 3 times while we are there.
GOD Bless the Rankin Family for doing a show the Family can see.

We have been in the Branson area for going on 6 years and have seen all the shows Branson has to offer. The Rankin Brothers show is the best to date. Mark, Matt and their supporting cast offer an atmosphere that involves everyone in the audience. The music and song selection is what makes them number one in my book. Every song the cast entertains with is a song that everyone in the audience knows, claps to and sings along with. Once the songs begin there is a rousing roar due to the fact that everyone knows the songs and appreciates their selection. The Elvis impersonation is priceless. One can tell that the brothers are truly Elvis fans and have worked hard to pay tribute to the King.
Lastly, the segment of the show that is dear to my heart is the tribute they pay to the servicemen and women in the audience and currently serving throughout the world, again priceless. In my opinion, the Rankin Brothers is a must see show!!

My wife and I are voting for the Rankin Brother Show at the Starlite Theatre because we consider them the very best show in Branson. Mark and Matt Rankin, the Rankinettes and all the band members are true professionals in every respect. The musical arrangements are superb and they've put together a show that entertains anyone that enjoys great music! They had the audience giving a standing ovation at the end of almost every song in addition to laughing at the humor based on Mark and Matt being brothers. We especially enjoyed seeing the photos of Mark and Matt Rankin from their youth, including performances while teenagers during the pre-show. Their show is a "Family Show" that all ages can enjoy---------and it certainly is a "MUST SEE" while in Branson.
We saw the 8:00 p.m. show the night before our 47th wedding anniversary. The show was so enjoyable that we decided to see it again the next day at 3:00 p.m.. The trip to Branson for our anniversay was great and the highlight of the trip was seeing The Rankins Brothers perform at the Starlite Theatre. They have so much talent in addition to being really great people. We highly recommend their show to everyone visiting Branson and the Starlite Theatre is very comfortable with ample parking.
We've seen several of the other shows in Branson and they have all been very good but the Rankin Brothers Show clearly stand out as "the best among all the rest".

I would like to nominate the Rankin Brothers for the Best Show in Branson. The Rankin Brothers are a class act! The show is amazing as it touches the hearts of people from every age. If you look out in the audience during one of their shows you can see smiles on the faces of little children and seniors alike. If you close your eyes you would swear you have been transported back in time to an Elvis, Neil Diamond or Buddy Holly show.(Or any of the greats they do so well!) Matt and Mark Rankin are two of the most talented artists I have been lucky enough to see. You can tell they enjoy the music and enjoy what they are doing. As you would expect it takes some spectacular talent to back them! Usually when you go see a show, it is all about the lead talent. The Rankin Brothers show is different. They showcase their amazing band that is so great to watch and is more entertaining than any band I have seen in some time...especially Cameron! It is the best all around show I have seen...ever! We would drive all the way from Dallas to see the show over and over again and we plan to!! If any one deserves to win an award for the Best Show in Branson...it is these guys! It just doesn‚t get any better!

THEY ARE A VERY GOOD GROUP THE RANKINS SHOULD GO FAR UP THE ENTERTAIMENT LADDER. THE FRIENDLINESS OF THE WHOLE STAFF WAS BEYOND COMPARISON AT ALL TIMES. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING THEM AGAIN. THE BRANSON SHOW IS A MUST SEE WHEN TRAVELING TO BRANSON.

My husband and I have seen this show many times over the last year and a half and just love these two young men. What tremendous talent they have. We just saw them again on the afternoon of July 15th. They are located at the Starlite theater on the strip there on 76. This is a very comfortable theater, with comfortable seating, and a nice entrance way with a gift shop, and a snack bar. There are tables and chairs set up out there, as well as a few benches, for eating or just sitting comfortably waiting for the show to begin. And for you guys, there is often times a few old cars out there on display for you to enjoy and take a look at. The staff is all nice friendly people, making your visit there and enjoyable one.
When the curtain opens and these two begin to sing, you can just feel the energy in the air as they begin a wide variety of the old classic songs from the fifties through the early nineties. Songs all of us remember, that bring back such wonderful memories of the past. Each song done as the original artist did them. Sounding just as these original artist did, when they recorded them. It is just amazing to the audience, just how much they sound like these artist. And just song after song. You just can't believe what you are hearing. Such incredible talent. Almost immediately you hear hands clapping, see people bouncing around in their seats. And sometimes hear someone singing along with the two, hoping no one can hear them. What a fun show this is. These two have a stage presence that you just can't help but love. Over the last year an a half my husband and I, have come to know these two brothers a little bit, as well as their parents . What wonderful people they all are personally. It is always a joy to spend a little time with them after the show. They always come out and sign autographs after each show, so that each of you have the opportunity to meet them if you have got the time to wait. Their love for the music that they do is so evident on both of their faces as they sing all of these old wonderful songs. This is a great family show for all ages.
They have some very talented musicians, as well as three lovely ladies who do backup for the brothers. And each of these ladies are very talented themselves, doing several songs on their on. And doing a great job also. They also are very personable young ladies. I thought last years show was great but this year is even better.
The brothers do songs by the Righteous Brothers, Neil Diamond, Simon and Garfunkle, Everly Brothers, Sonny & Cher, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Conway Twitty, You name it. And this year Mark has added George Strait, and Willy Nelson, and what a treat that is And you can't beat Matt on songs like" Unchained Melody", and "The Lion Sleeps tonight". Man can he hit those high notes. And Mark, well I don't know anything he can't sing. Don't miss this show. You won't be sorry, I promise. When you leave you will know you have been entertained.

This was our second visit to the Rankin Brothers show in 5 weeks. We watched, jumped around, sang, clapped and screamed (especially for Elvis). If you close your eyes during the songs, you will swear you are listening to the original artist!
This show is entertaining, funny and friendly. After the show, we went to the lobby to take the opportunity to meet the boys and the Rankinettes. All are so friendly.
At this show, the second time we partook, we were privileged to have a wonderful conversation with Mother Rankin. She is so sweet and soooo proud of her boys.
Go see the show! You will not regret it.

My wife and I attended the 2009 season opening show of the Rankin Brothers and it was great. The entertainers received numerous standing ovations during the show and especially at the end of the show. We were in Branson four times during 2008 and saw the Rankin Brothers show each time. Each show was so great and it seemed impossible that there could be any improvements made---------but they've made some changes in the 2009 show and it's now even better than last year. The three beautiful and very talented lady singers, called the Rankinettes, provide "backup" for Mark and Matt Rankin. And they also have their own individual songs of the same musical era to give the show just the right balance of the songs of the 50's, 60's & 70's. The entire show members: the vocalists, musicians, sound and video technicians all were clearly worthy of being voted "The Best New Show in Branson for 2008". If you love the music of that era, or just simply love all good music, this show is a "MUST SEE" show while in Branson.
